Many ways to say “Wear (clothing)” in Japanese

In Japanese, we use different verbs depending on what you put on, so I would like to introduce them here:


Kiru (着る) e.g. put on clothes like T-shirts, blouses, sweaters, etc.

Haku (履く) e.g. put on pants (trousers), skirts, shoes, socks, etc.

Haoru (羽織る) e.g. put on cardigans, coats, etc. (over some other clothes)

<Accessories>

Kaburu (かぶる) e.g. put on a hat, helmet, etc.

Kakeru (かける) e.g. put on glasses

Tsukeru (付ける) e.g. put on a tie, earrings, necklaces, etc.

Shimeru (絞める) e.g. put on a belt

Hameru (はめる) e.g. put on a ring
